Alexander Korneyev is one of the most prominent Russian flutists and a major figure of the musical scene in Russia whose brilliant performing career spans from the mid 20th century into the 21st century. Hailed by musical critics as The Golden Flute of Russia, his name is widely known in Russia, the former Soviet Union, Eastern Europe, South Korea and Japan. Alexander Korneyev is an artist of bright and unique talent and an exceptionally versatile musician. He is renowned not only as a soloist but also as a conductor, in which capacity he premiered many works of Russia and the former Soviet Union’s foremost contemporary composers such as S. Gubaidulina, R. Schedrin, A. Holminov, N. Sidelnikov and many others. Numerous composers dedicated their compositions to him including O. Taktakishvili, E. Denisov, M. Vainberg, O. Gordeli, A. Leman, Y. Krein, Y. Levitin. E. Firsova, and D. Krivitsky. A number of these works are established as standard flute repertoire today. He worked closely with the French composer AndrÈ Jolivet who once said of him, “I have Korneyev in the East and Rampal in the West to perform my flute works.” He made many Moscow premieres of Jolivet’s works as both flutist and conductor.

 

 


Korneyev held the principal flute position with the Bolshoi Symphony Orchestra of Soviet Union Radio and TV in Moscow for more than thirty years. As a soloist he performed with such esteemed conductors as Neeme J‰rvi, Leopold Stokowski, Yevgeny Mravinsky, Kirill Kondrashin, Genadiy Rozdestvensky, Yevgeny Svetlanov, Alexander Gauk, Kurt Sanderling, Karel Ancerl, Charles Munch, Igor Markevich, Kurt Masur, Alexander Melik-Pashayev, and Carlo Zecchi.

He is the originator, music director and conductor of the ensemble of soloist-virtuosi of the Bolshoi Symphony Orchestra of Soviet Union Radio and TV. His collaborators of the ensemble include: Svyatoslav Richter, Emil Gilels, Lev Oborin, David Oistrakh, Mstislav Rostropovich, Tatiana Nikolaeva, Alexander Goedicke, Daniel Shafran, Vera Dulova, Olga Erdeli, Ivan Kozlovsky, Alexei Nasedkin, Victoria Yagling, Issaya Braudo, Nadezhda Kazantseva, and the Beethoven Quartet among others.

Alexander Korneyev was awarded graduate and post-graduate diplomas from Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory in both flute performance, studying with professor Vladimir Tsibin and Yuri Yagudin, and in conducting studying under Boris Khaikin.

He has been a professor of Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory since 1962, soloist of Moscow State Academic Philharmonic Society, People’s Artist of Russia, Recipient of the Russian State Award and Moscow Government Award, prizewinner of international competitions including the Prague Spring (First Prize, 1953), the World’s Festival in Berlin (First Prize 1951) and Budapest (Second Prize 1949).

Mr. Korneyev combines concert activities with pedagogic work in Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory. He conducts masterclasses throughout Russia and other countries including Japan, Turkey, USA, Spain, Poland, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Poland and Malta.

His students are prizewinners of Russian National and International Competitions and Festivals.
